Responsible Use

Responsible Use

At Coffeeshop The Black Sea, we strongly believe in cannabis education. Understanding what cannabis is, how it works, and what effects and risks it may have is essential for making conscious and responsible choices. Our goal is to provide honest and clear information, so you can decide for yourself whether or not cannabis use is right for you.

What Is Cannabis?

Cannabis is a natural product derived from the Cannabis sativa plant. Across cultures and countries, it is known by many different names, such as marijuana, weed, or hash. Marijuana generally refers to the dried flower tops of the cannabis plant. Hashish, commonly called hash, is made by collecting and pressing the resin from these flower tops into a concentrated form.

The effects of cannabis are often described as feeling “high” or “stoned.” These effects are mainly caused by THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the primary psychoactive substance in cannabis. Different strains of cannabis contain varying levels of THC, which is why their effects can differ significantly. In addition to THC, terpenes play an important role. Terpenes are natural aromatic compounds found in many plants and are responsible for the smell, taste, and part of the overall effect of a cannabis strain. Just as lavender releases a distinct scent when touched, cannabis terpenes influence both aroma and experience.

Being Aware of Cannabis Effects

Hash and weed are classified as soft drugs, but their effects can vary widely. Cannabis can have relaxing or pain-relieving properties, but it can also intensify emotions and sensations. Some people feel calm and at ease, while others may feel more energetic or introspective. Cannabis can influence blood pressure, appetite, and energy levels, often causing drowsiness or strong hunger.

It is important to remember that cannabis can also alter how you perceive the world around you. Combined with slower reaction times and reduced coordination, this is why cannabis use and traffic do not go together. Driving or participating in traffic after using cannabis is dangerous and illegal.

What Are the Risks of Cannabis Use?

As part of our responsibility toward our customers, we believe it is important to openly discuss the risks associated with cannabis use, regardless of whether it is smoked, vaped, or consumed in edible form. Cannabis can temporarily affect logical thinking and memory, making it harder to concentrate or remember recent events. Smoking cannabis introduces tar into the lungs, which can be harmful over time.

Another risk is what is commonly known as a “bad trip.” This can occur when too much cannabis is used at once, or when someone already feels tired, stressed, anxious, or depressed before using it. Symptoms may include heart palpitations, excessive sweating, nausea, dizziness, loss of control, anxiety, or paranoia. Continuous or frequent use of cannabis can lead to dependency, both mentally and physically. Some individuals are more vulnerable to negative effects, particularly those with a predisposition to depression or psychosis.

Mixing cannabis with alcohol significantly increases the risks and can lead to unpredictable and unpleasant physical and mental reactions. For this reason, cannabis should always be used responsibly and never in combination with alcohol.

If Cannabis Is New to You

If you have little or no experience with cannabis, it is especially important to approach it carefully. Always ask a staff member for a mild strain, as some cannabis varieties contain high levels of THC that may be overwhelming for beginners. Start slowly and allow your body time to respond. When smoking, the effects usually appear within a few minutes, so there is no need to consume large amounts at once. Take a few puffs, wait around ten minutes, and observe how you feel before continuing.

Edible cannabis products require extra caution. Because THC is absorbed through digestion, it can take anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours before the effects are felt. These effects can be stronger and last much longer, sometimes up to six hours. For this reason, edibles should never be consumed all at once. Start with a small portion and be patient. In the event of an uncomfortable experience, CBD products may help reduce the intensity of THC effects.

Effects of Cannabis Use

The effects of cannabis depend on the method of consumption. When smoked, effects can begin within minutes and last for several hours. When eaten, effects take longer to appear but may last significantly longer. Cannabis effects can be divided into mental and physical experiences, and it is important to remember that all of these effects are temporary and will pass with time.

If you feel uncomfortable after using cannabis, try to stay calm and find a quiet, safe place to rest. Sugary, non-alcoholic drinks can help ease symptoms, as can having someone you trust nearby to reassure you.

Mental Effects

Cannabis can influence mood and perception. Some people feel relaxed, cheerful, or more socially open. Music, colors, and sensory experiences may feel more intense, and creativity or imagination may be enhanced. For others, cannabis may cause anxiety, paranoia, or confusion. Concentration can become more difficult, logical thinking may slow down, and short-term memory can be affected. It is not uncommon to forget what you were saying mid-sentence.

Physical Effects

Physically, cannabis can create a deep sense of relaxation, but it can also cause discomfort. Heart rate may increase, leading to palpitations. Blood pressure may drop, which can result in dizziness or light-headedness. A dry mouth and red or irritated eyes are common, as blood vessels expand. Muscles may feel heavy or relaxed, and appetite often increases, especially cravings for sweet or salty snacks. Again, these effects are temporary and will gradually fade.

If someone experiences a strong negative reaction, stays nearby, offer reassurance, fresh air, rest, and a sugary drink. Although it may feel alarming, a bad trip is not life-threatening and will pass.

Mindset, Body and Environment Matter

Your mental state plays a major role in how cannabis affects you. If you are already feeling stressed, anxious, or unwell, cannabis can intensify those feelings. It is best to use cannabis only when you feel calm and comfortable. Using cannabis on an empty stomach can increase the chances of nausea or dizziness, so eating beforehand is recommended.

Your environment is just as important. Choose a safe, familiar, and relaxed setting, preferably with people you trust. Having snacks and drinks nearby can also help make the experience more pleasant and balanced.
